TGIF Christmas Weekend

TGIF Christmas Weekend

TGIF!

Just got out of work and I’m so so so excited for the Christmas weekend!

We opened our Day 22 advent gifts.

I got Ian polarized sunglasses made of recycled skateboard wood, and they can float in water.

And Ian got me 2 tupperwares of takeout from Double Z’s!!!! I am obsessed with Double Z’s teri and katsu plates so I was vvvvvery happy with my present! Ian wins today lol.

The sunset was beautiful. Ian took Yodi for a walk and I journaled for a bit.

We ate dinner and watched “Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets” in bed on the big screen (our wall).

We headed to the airport to pick up my parents but there was a stupid police roadblock and they ticketed us for what they said was a broken light but it’s just a different colored light! We were so bummed. I called my parents and they said their friends picked them up so we turned around and finished our movie. Bummed about that, but that won’t put me down. This weekend is going to be awesome!

Life Lately: Weekend Blurb

Life Lately: Weekend Blurb

I was listening to Spotify the other day and I realized I don’t know any of the artists anymore. I honestly haven’t been paying attention to pop culture music, except for some of the top 40’s that play nonstop on the radio – but those are like years old anyway. I wonder if other millennials have the same experience. Maybe it’s because I live on an island, but I thiink it’s because of the “Discover” option / genius playlists–like my music is selected for me now, I just tell it if I like it or not. #MillennialProblems

Ian is on Rose Atoll right now!!! If you don’t know where that is, it’s a very very very tiny remote uninhabited island that is managed by the US Fish and Wildlife Service. It’s so tiny, with vegetation no taller than 6 feet, that it may disappear due to climate change within my lifetime. And entrance to the island is prohibited unless you apply for a research permit. I’m low key jealous because I’m from American Samoa but he gets more opportunities to explore the outer islands than the average Samoan because he’s in science. It kinda makes me wish I was in a science field too.

Also, Ian has my camera (I told him to take a bunch of photos since I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to visit Rose Atoll) so I haven’t taken any photos this weekend. I have another camera here at home but only one battery that gets shared between both so I guess I should buy an extra battery.

It’s like 3am right now and I’m watching chick flicks on Netflix, cuddling with my cat, cozied up under the covers and writing this blog post. This multitasking – I like.

But I should probably go to bed now. Goodnight.

Balancing a Long Weekend

Balancing a Long Weekend

The long weekend was a blessing in disguise. I didn’t make any plans because the weather forecast was expected to be torrential rain and heavy winds. In fact, I wanted to do absolutely nothing—which is hard for me—with the exception of doing at least one productive thing.

And it turned out to be the perfect balance of rest and recreation.

Journaling
I have been journaling like mad lately. There’s something about it that is so therapeutic and healing because I ended up hand making a couple of notebooks, and sewed a plastic bag dispenser. I’ve really gotten into bullet journaling which is a whole science on its own, but it’s flexible and forces me to step away from my laptop or smartphone, and just write, with a little bit of order than my usual long form writing.

Sailboat Sleepovers
Ian and I try to make it out to the SV Tipsea at least once a month for a sleepover. Ian is usually doing maintenance on the boat, and I’ll kick my feet up with a book and read until we prepare a simple dinner and watch a movie in bed. This weekend, the inclement weather meant a lot of patching up leaks, rocking back and forth in the berth, and waking up to the sound of extra strong gusts of wind howling into the harbor. Surprisingly though, I didn’t get seasick and I was in my most relaxed state all weekend while reading and writing on the SV Tipsea.

Fogama’a Beach
For the Presidents Day holiday, the dark clouds seemed to take a break and we shot off to the beach last minute and asap. It was still overcast, but we trekked over to Fogama’a Cove and made it look like the sun was shining. We snorkeled out to wander the reefs, waved over to the NPS boats outside of the cove, drank fresh niu, and took photos. I thought I wanted nothing more than to be lazy this weekend but I should have known that a little ocean therapy was what I really needed.
