Reading: Amber Mozo’s Chasing Light

Do you ever kind of fall in love with someone’s story?

That’s how I felt about Amber Mozo’s story. It started when she was about 10 years old.  Her father, the famous surf photographer Jon Mozo, passed away doing what he loved, photographing surf on the North Shore of Hawai’i.  Amber picked up her father’s camera, and the talent was inherent. She dropped out of high school to get her GED and pursue her passion for photography and has been making waves in the Hawai’i creatives scene since then.

I’ve been a big fan of Amber Mozo since I started photo blogging on Tumblr. Even at a young age, her photos were awe-inspiring and her blog posts were raw and poetic. I was so excited when I saw that she was publishing a book. This book is an impassioned compilation of her travels around the world with her mom and siblings several years after her father’s passing. She helps to build a school, befriends a young orphan named Essie, gains new perspectives, and is guided by the light of her father’s memory.
